A miniature on ivory of a young woman by Abraham Parsell. The miniature is mounted on a piece of gold paper and enclosed within a highly decorated brass mat and a black wooden frame. There is a nearly invisible crack at the center top. Her proportions are typical of this artist's work: she wears a coral necklace which is virtually the same size as the black satin-covered belt at her waist. She is seated on a black Federal sofa with her arm over the crest rail. The work dates c.1825, when Parcell was working in New York City.
